CMoG Tiffany Mosaic Exhibit.

"The Art of Mosaic, combining small element to create a decorative effect, has been practiced for thousands of years. Mosaics were formed from a variety of natural and man-made colored materials, including stone, shell, and glazed terra-cotta (fired Clay). They were then embedded in plaster, cement, or other binding material to keep them in place and to provide an impermeable barrier to the elements. Glass began to be used for mosaics sometime during the middle of the second millennium B.C., only centuries after glass, as a man-made material, was first manufactured."

"Tiffany's early career as a painter directed his lifelong pursuit of beauty. Noted as a colorist, Tiffany was deeply affected by the brilliant glass found in European cathedrals and in the warm, saturated light in North Africa, where he traveled in 1870 and 1871. He later recalled to the members of the Rembrandt Club, "I returned to New York wondering why we made so little use of our eyes, why we refrained so obstinately from taking advantage of color." His ambition to communicate this boldness and purity of color most likely prompted his initial entry into the glass and shaped his vision for the mosaics produced by his company."

I have been working with the UofU Lifelong Learning to create some exciting classes for the Fall Semester. I will have these classes up for registration in a few weeks. Click here for my teaching schedule.

Here is your sneak peek.... Classes will be posted mid July. So check back soon as my classes fill quickly.

Gelli Monoprinting
Dates:
Mondays, Sept. 18th - Oct. 2nd.

Right now, I'm inviting you to join us in this unique creative experience. We will be learning the basics of monprinting using a Gel Printing Plate, acrylic paints, stencils and many other materials.
The gel plate looks and feels like gelatin, but is durable, reusable and stores at room temperature. It's easy to clean and always ready for printing. Monoprinting on a Gelli plate is simple and fun. The gratification is immediate, and the prints are too cool! We will find stimulating uses to incorporate our prints into works of art.
Monoprinting is a beginner friendly form of printmaking that has lines or images that can only be made once, unlike most printmaking, where there are multiple originals. There are many techniques of monoprinting.

Strip Cut Glass Jewelry
Dates:
Mondays Oct. 30th - Nov. 20th

This kiln formed fusing glass class in a measure of pleasure and a great way for beginners to learn about the kiln forming glass process. We will discuss materials, firing schedules and other important glass techniques. Get ready to enjoy making small sculptures to adorn your person.
