I am looking forward to heading back to CMOC this Summer with Kari. I wanted to share the class information to my people so that you don't miss this amazing opportunity.

I will be helping out the students to get whatever they need for the class and be available to Kari for any of her needs. It would be great to see some of my friends there as well. Hope you will join us for some glass fun.

Best-

Picture
Kari's Minnick's Class description

Date:  June 12 - 17, 2017
Season Summer: Technique Kiln Working
Level: All Levels
Duration: One-Week SessionThe surface is the entry to a work of art. It can stop you in your tracks or lead a viewer into the layers below. It’s the part you want to touch. Using unusual applications of Bullseye sheet glass, powder, stringer and frit, in conjunction with multiple firings, you will learn strategies to enable rich textural surfaces and depth for fused glass.
Gritty, slick, or robust relief, kiln-forming materials and processes afford us exceptional textural and tactile qualities. Utilizing wet and dry powder processes, and combinations of glasses, students will create a variety of surface textures. Through the careful order of firings and observation of the effects of heat work, they will attain and maintain a diversity of desired textures on panel surfaces. Detailed firing schedules and layering strategies and will be explored. Color, composition, opacity and transparency will be considered. This highly creative and hands-on course is of interest to kiln glass workers as well as artists of other media.

I would like to share my friend Kirsten Schiel's story with you today. She and I have had many countless conversations about how to do art and keep "the plates spinning". A term I coined for making money doing your art form. It is never easy to keep all the plates spinning and have a breakthrough. It really does take your local community to build artists. That is where it starts for all of us. I am completely uplifted by her motivation and conviction to her art form. Please take a minute to listen to her story, now.

I am ordering my mugs now-!!!

"Portal" Kiln formed and cold-worked glass. 40"x22"x8" was installed into it's permanent home a few months ago.

-Do you often wonder how to go about commissioning an artist to do work for you?
-Or do you want to have more commissions if you are an artist?

How this particular commission worked for me. I was contacted by a local art dealer in Chicago who was collaborating on a new private residence, curating all of the art for the new home. We worked out the details with a digital sketchs, glass color samples, metal color samples and weekly updates.

Below the beginning process images of this job. We started with drawings and renderings. Then went to physical samples and weekly process images.

A Glass Studio Visit.

Austen Diamond with Salt Lake Magazine a few years back made a visit to my studio to take images for a article about local artists. A huge thank you to Austen Diamond Photography and Salt Lake Magazine for sharing my work and studio. What I did not expect is that he was going to take action shots of me working. I do not wear lipstick and dress shirts to cold-work in.
Just Sayn' !!!!!

I thought I would share these as I always find it interesting to see the work space of other artists myself. I have moved my studio last year and it is fun for me to revisit one of my favorite art spaces where all the magic happens.

Complete side note, Austen took my husband's a my wedding photos.

Radiolarian Cell Structures and My Glass Process.

This is a work in progress. I am trying to incorporate these structures into my artwork, both glass, and paintings.
I am not sure of when I first learned of these amazing sea creatures. Regardless, I know these microscopic, siliceous, sea skeletons are beautiful to cast your eyes upon.

Know that I will enjoy finding new ways radiolarians can live and breathe in my work.
Do you want to know more about Radiolarians....?

These are my drawn images of Radiolarians.

The delicate glass structures that have not been fired in the kiln as of yet.
A video on my current process.
These images are after the firing process. I feel that I have learned a lot of the limitations of these samples and will be experimenting with how to use these in my current work.

Go ahead and indulge to the cellular level...!!!

These creations have been swirling in my head for years now and
originated from ornaments I designed years ago.
I had an incredible opportunity to create these for my latest show at Glass House.

"Cellular" bowls and platters are available now at Glass House in Salt Lake City.  I will be adding these to my site soon.....

A New Blog for Sarinda Jones & Reflective Art Studio.

I have made the decision to create my "blog" or "studio news" here on my personal website, instead of the "Blogspot" platform.  Ha ha- yes now you know how long I have been blogging, since 2008. Side note I started my profession of art in 2003. So my worry was that I would loose all the content from "Blogspot". Including the history of how I came to this point. I feel it is important for my collectors and patrons to see the process that got me to this point in my career. This lead me to transfer it to this blog. However- it would be a small miracle and the planets would need to be aligned perfectly to get that done. There are so many reasons for why..... SEO, all on one platform, better drives to my website. Well- You get the drift.

So if you are interested in going down memory lane..... you can find that here.

The above image is of my art booth from 2006 at the Salt Lake City Farmers' Market. It is always interesting to look at past images and see your growth as a person and as a business.
