Master Class Glass Pattern Bars :: 2 Day November 13 & 20 Friday, 6-8 pm -
In this two-day intermediate workshop, Sarinda will share her approach to creating dynamic kiln-formed glass components using pattern bars. Students will learn how to build layered slabs of glass, fuse them into bars, then slice and reassemble them into finished work filled with movement, rhythm, and unexpected detail.
Pattern bars are one of the most versatile processes in kiln-formed glass. Designs can be geometric, structured, fluid, or completely organic depending on how the glass is assembled and manipulated in the kiln. In this workshop we will explore multiple construction methods, color relationships, reactive combinations, and layout strategies that can dramatically shift the final outcome.
Students will create and design their own pattern bars during the first session. Between classes, the bars will be tile-sawn and cold worked by the instructor so they are ready for use in the second session. During the final class, students will transform their sliced bars into a finished plate or bowl while learning composition techniques and how to successfully integrate pattern bars into future work.
We will discuss both traditional and contemporary approaches to pattern bars, from flowing organic imagery to strong geometric structures. Expect discussions about glass behavior, compression, movement, and how heat affects line and form. This process has always felt a bit like opening a kaleidoscope. Every cut reveals something unexpected.
This workshop is ideal for students who already have a basic understanding of kiln-formed glass and are ready to expand their design vocabulary.
Please note:
The class sessions are spaced two weeks apart to allow time for cutting the pattern bars on the tile saw and cold working the edges before the second class.

Class Creation Time
Class time is defined as a structured period that begins at a specified start time and concludes at an end time, allowing for a half-hour on completion period. This layaway time offers students a brief interval to complete their projects and prepare for their departure from the studio. However, if projects are not completed within the last half-hour grace of the designated end time, a fee of $35 will be incurred for each additional half-hour required. This policy ensures that students are encouraged to manage their time effectively while also maintaining the integrity of the class schedule.
Cancelations Requirements
As soon as you know you are not able to make the workshop please let me know. I am not able to honor refunds at this time. However, I am able to transfer the funds to a future class within six months.
