Rules
Our goal is always towards education and independence. As such, we ask that you take full responsibility for every aspect of your project, in every phase. Learn the entire process from start to finish. We offer classes to help you learn how to use equipment with the idea that you'll eventually get equipment of your own at some point. To that end, R.A.S. will assume NO accountability or responsibility for any aspect of your projects success or failure, including the kiln firings. We will do our best towards your success, but art is a constant experiment and success is never a guarantee.
• Reservations are required. You must reserve the kiln you wish to use when signing up.
• The workshop is a shared space, so be mindful of your footprint, both physically and when using telephones and music. Phone calls must be taken outside the workshop and headphones must be used at all times w/all audio devices.
• Everyone in the space has paid for their time, so please be considerate.
• R.A.S. staff has the right to ask any customer to leave the premises if they witness behavior that is inappropriate or disruptive.
• All areas that you use must be cleaned up after use.
• You may not leave materials, tools or projects in the workshop.
• ALL rules and safety procedures in place during classes are also enforced during Open Studio.
•You MUST have the basic knowledge and skills necessary to complete your project. We do not teach in open studio. R.A.S. staff member will be present, but will not be available for instruction purposes. Loose questions are happily answered.
• Basic tools, grinders and glass cleaner will be provided.
• Kilns MUST be programmed by a R.A.S. staff member.
• If your project requires a firing schedule other than a basic Full Fuse, Tack Fuse, Slump Firing or Shallow Slump for a 6mm piece, you will be responsible for supplying the firing schedule to Melt staff. We do have some recommended schedules on hand, but they are just recommendations.
• Anything outside of the norm (ie drop-out molds, investment castings, etc) are not something we do at R.A.S, unless in a class environment. These types of projects require extra care and special attention that we simply don't have the bandwidth to handle.
• You may share kiln space/cost with another artist, but Melt is not responsible for making such arrangements.
• As we do have classes going on, kiln space may be limited from time to time. If this happens, we will make arrangements to have your piece fired at a later time, as soon as the schedule allows. If you need something fired immediately, please call ahead and find out what the kiln usage looks like. We will do our best to work it out.
•When designing your pieces, factor in shelf dimensions so that your project is at least 1/2" from the shelf edge.
• Choose slump/drape molds before designing your pieces and use the actual mold as a guide in order to avoid damage to the mold or piece during firing. Molds may be fired together only when all molds are exactly the same or require exactly the same schedule. If you bring in an outside mold, it is YOUR responsibility to know the associated schedule.
• It is possible to arrange to bring in projects for firing outside of Open Studio. Call to make those arrangements. If not paying for Open Studio time, your project will need to be fully assembled when you arrive and any loose "pieces" securely in place to avoid things coming apart while being loaded into the kiln.

The Studio Liability Waiver will be sent out to you the week of the Open Studio Date. Including studio information and parking.
