Step into the studio and learn the foundations of kiln-formed (fused) glass in a warm, hands-on environment. This series is designed for artists, makers, and the “glass-curious” who want to understand how glass behaves in the kiln—from flat sheets to finished, functional and sculptural pieces.

We’ll be working exclusively with Bullseye COE 90 glass

(Sarinda does not work with 96 COE).

Over seven Monday evenings, you’ll learn the core skills of kiln-forming:

  • cutting and safely handling sheet glass
  • designing and assembling projects
  • basic fusing and slumping principles
  • texture, relief, and surface play
  • how to think like glass when you plan a piece

We’ll start with a simple, confidence-building project and progressively move into more complex forms and techniques so you can build skills step by step.

You’ll receive:

  • An extensive printed + digital syllabus for your reference, with weekly handouts, reading material, and project instructions.
  • Firing schedules you can use and adapt for your own kiln in the future.
  • A Bullseye color chart to help you plan and design your work.
  • Instructions for 12 different kiln-formed projects, introducing a variety of techniques you can fold into your own practice. We will be creating two project each workshop.
  • On the final session, we’ll bring everything together: Sarinda will demonstrate how to create stands, mounting systems, and display solutions so your artwork can live beautifully in the world. There will also be time for Q&A.
  • A materials and equipment list to guide you in setting up or expanding your own basic kiln-formed glass studio.

This in-person course is all about exploration and play. You’ll follow along as Sarinda demonstrates twelve projects, with plenty of room to develop your own style, color language, and design voice.

This is a beginner-friendly kiln-formed glass class.

No experience is required. Most participants are new to glass, and you are not expected to know any of this yet. Please be kind and gentle with yourself while you learn—this is your sandbox.

Projects we’ll touch on include:

  1. Stringers Plate
  2. Organic Bowl
  3. Texture Plate
  4. Bas Relief
  5. Stencils
  6. Sugar-Fired Glass
  7. Part Sheets: Making Your Own Glass
  8. Jewelry
  9. Petrified Wood
  10. Alchemy Glass (surface and color play)
  11. Intro to Reactive Glass: Steel Blue and Green
  12. Intro to Reactive Glass: Understanding Why Glass Reacts
  13. Final focus: How does your art live in the world?

All glass, tools, and kiln firings for in-class projects are provided. You’re welcome to bring a sketchbook, apron, and any inspiration images you’d like.
